A little about In All Things...

Here's the blurb to In All things, and a link to a short excerpt on the publisher's site.

Jakob and Meri's story continues...

Meredith Louis's Hollywood career is at a point of transition. No longer under Majestic Studios' control, Meri is free to broaden her appeal as an actress and finally earn the recognition she desires.

Meri and Jakob return to their hometown for the holidays where Meri hopes to reconcile with her parents after a decade of silence. But after a disastrous encounter, Meri is plunged into turmoil as old fears resurface in unexpected ways.

Jakob, already dealing with unresolved family issues of his own, is further burdened by his inability to help his wife. Can he learn to step aside and trust God's plan. Will Meri recognize what she already has?

In All Things is a story of faith and restoration, cemented in the belief, "...that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Please welcome Desert Rose Author Shawna K. Williams

Please welcome author Shawna K. Williams to my blog today. Shawna, thanks for joining us.

Thank you for hosting me today, Mary.

I'd like to tell your followers a little about myself and my new book. My name is Shawna Williams. I'm a rancher's wife, homeschooling mother of three, and a writer of true-to-life Christian fiction of the non-preachy variety. I currently have two inspirational historical novels published by Desert Breeze publishing, and a third due to release next month.

My latest release, In All Things, is the sequel to my debut novel, No Other. Both books were originally inspired by a dream I had over eight years ago. Before that dream I had never intended to be a writer. The dream was a story, though, told in bits and pieces, and I obsessed over it for six months as I tried to fill in all the details until I finally had to write it down. At first it was to satisfy my own curiosity, but over the course of years (yes years) as I pulled it out and put it away, I fell so in love with the characters and their journey that I felt I owed it to them to at least try to get their story published. The two books, No Other and In All Things, have gone through multiple critiques and rewrites, and have changed in many ways from the original, but the core story that originated with that dream remains the same.

In All Things picks up ten years after No Other, in the late 1950s. Jakob and Meri have both thrown themselves into achieving success for different reasons, and they've both succeeded. What they've found, though, is that the dreams they once believed would heal old wounds have fallen short. The strain of disillusion sets in, and when they return to their hometown for the holidays they are forced to reface old issues they both had attempted to bury.

My hope is that readers will take away the message of God's sovereignty in our lives, and that we are never beyond His sight or His Grace. I know that in my own life stories of Grace have had a tremendous impact. Francine Rivers is my favorite author for this reason. I had a hard time connecting with a lot of Christian fiction before I encountered her books. The people were too perfect and the dilemmas too simple -- for me at least. There are readers, like me, who want to read Christian fiction that resembles real life, and to be reminded of God's Grace while reading. I want my books to do that.

If you enjoy No Other and In All Things, I have a Christmas story coming out on Dec 1st with the same publisher, Desert Breeze. It's called Orphaned Hearts, and it's inspired by my grandparents. My grandfather was raised in an orphanage, and my grandmother's father ran the orphanage's dairy. This was how my grandparents met. Their own experiences motivated them to become foster parents, and over the course of many years they touched many lives through their love and their faith.

How about another excerpt from This Can't Be Love?

This Can't Be Love:

“Jessica?”

“In here.”

He poked his head around the kitchen doorframe. His hair was disheveled, like he’d taken

off his hat and run his fingers through it. “Hey, what’s up?”

“I thought I’d give you a break tonight and make dinner. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Of course not, that sounds great.”

“It should be ready in about half an hour.”

“Perfect, that gives me time to take a quick shower.”

“Are you working tonight?”

“Nope, I’m off.” He studied her. “I need to do a couple of things in the barn, so I won’t be in your way.”

His words brought a stab of disappointment.

She didn’t think she could take another night alone.

Last night had been a welcome change. The solitude she’d craved wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. “Oh, sure.”

While Zach showered she set the table, then threw together the small salad. She pulled the bread

from the oven when he strode back into the room.

“Smells good.”

“Thanks. It’s not as fancy as the things you cook, but I thought you—” Her finger touched the side of the white-hot pan. “Ouch!”

The pan fell with a clatter on the stovetop. She stuck her stinging finger in her mouth.

In an instant Zach arrived at her side. “Let me see,” he said, taking her hand in his. He examined

the small red mark on her skin. He dipped his finger under the faucet and smoothed cold water over the burn. “This should help.”

“Thanks.”

“Better?” he asked. His gaze captured hers. He stood so close the darker flecks in his mocha-colored irises were visible.

Jessica sucked in a breath. He hadn’t looked at her, really looked at her, since he’d kissed her.

The memory of that kiss gave her courage. Or made her foolish. Before she could stop them, the

words slipped out. “Why don’t you want to kiss me again?”

First excerpt from This Can't Be Love!

This Can't Be Love

There was a naked man in her grandfather’s bathtub.

At least she assumed he was naked. She didn’t plan on getting any closer to verify the fact.

Jessica Hart stood in the doorway and worried her bottom lip with her teeth. The man had one welldefined arm slung lazily over the side of the clawfoot tub, fingers trailing on the floor. His head tilted back against the edge, eyes closed. Dark, damp hair curled over his forehead. A day’s worth of stubble shadowed his strong jaw. Her gaze drifted lower to his chest, visible above the water in the tub.

It definitely wasn’t Pops.

So who the hell was he?

She shifted her weight from one foot to the other. The last thing she’d expected when she walked into the bathroom was to find a strange man in the tub. She’d come to the creek looking for some peace and quiet. After the events of the past year she needed it. Desperately. The cabin at the creek had seemed like the perfect retreat. Spending time with Pops would help her gain some perspective and feel human again.

So where was her grandfather? The door to the cabin had been open, which wasn’t unusual, but Pops was nowhere around. She’d checked his favorite places before heading upstairs. A nice long soak in his antique tub would be the perfect way to while away the time until he returned.

Unfortunately the tub was already occupied.

Well, that wouldn’t do.

She cleared her throat.

The man opened his eyes and turned toward her. His irises were a rich brown, reminding her of hot, strong coffee with just a touch of cream. His gaze swept over her before returning to her own. He raised an brow.

“Yes?” He seemed completely unfazed to see her standing there.

Jessica placed her hands on her hips. “Who the hell are you?”

“Zach Rawlings.” He inclined his head. “And you are?”

"Jessica.”

“Ah, Ben’s granddaughter.”

"You know me?”

"He talks about you all the time.”

“Oh.” She paused. “What are you doing here?”

His mouth quirked up at the corners. “Taking a bath.”

Welcome author Sandy Sullivan!

Welcome Sandy. I can't wait to learn more about Hot Summer Love.

 A little about Sandy...

Sandy Sullivan is a romance author, who, when not writing, spends her time with her husband Shaun on their farm in middle Tennessee. She loves to ride her horses, play with their dogs and relax on the porch, enjoying the rolling hills of her home south of Nashville. County music is a passion of hers and she loves to listen to it while she writes.

She is an avid reader of romance novels and enjoys reading Nora Roberts, Jude Deveraux and Susan Wiggs. Finding new authors and delving into something different helps feed the need for literature. A registered nurse by education, she loves to help people and spread the enjoyment of romance to those around her with her novels. She loves cowboys so you'll find many of her novels have sexy men in tight jeans and cowboy boots.

Sandy answers some questions for our readers...

When did you start writing? I've been writing since I was young, but I actually finish a novel that was publishable until 2007.

What made you write your book and why? I love cowboys and having them as my hero's was perfect. I've written several and most of them have cowboys in them. It just seemed natural to me.

Who is your inspiriation? Clay Walker. I love him! He's a country music artist and my idea of the perfect cowboy.

How did you feel when you found you had received your first contract? I was excited! I couldn't believe someone actually wanted to publish my book.

Are you writing anything new and if so what are you writing now? I'm working on a piece I pitched to Harlequin at a conference in October. I have to get it polished and submitted soon. I also just released Hot Summer Love (Cowboy Style 1) with Whiskey Creek Press and I have another piece called Love Me Once, Love Me Twice (Montana Cowboys 1) coming with Secret Cravings Publishing in December.

Do you listen to music when you're writing and if so which kind? Sometimes and it's always country or old rock.

What advice would you give a new writer breaking out into the writing field? Get a thick skin and submit, submit, submit.

What promotional advice would you give a new author and why? Make yourself known. Get on the loops and get your name out there. I've been told by several people they found me because I'm everywhere online.

Give us a glimpse in mind what are you thinking right now? I'm ready for bed and I'm having a yard sale tomorrow that I really don't want to do. LOL
